Thanks to my friend, Liz, for sharing this awesome inexpensive DIY Wall Art Idea for The Frugal Fairy Fans!
After unexpectedly having to refinish my whole bath due to a plumbing disaster, I wanted to decorate the new area without spending a lot of money.
First, I found a ceramic pig with wings from the Home Store that I fell in love with and a theme was born. After all, I always knew I would get a new bathroom when pigs could fly.
Here is a pic of the pig with wings that was the inspiration:
The pig looks great on my new marble vanity top. I decided French country and an animal motif would work well together.
At a dollar store I found old beat up tin plaques of farm animals. I decided to make a collage of them but didn’t want to hang them directly on the wall but rather to present them so to speak.
At a fabric store I got a remnant of coarsely woven black fabric for $1.00. I also purchased several yards of black ribbon. I created a method of holding the tins on the remnant by using ribbon to make a type of “photo corners”. I glued them to the remnant around each tin’s corners. (If your art work is a little heavier, you could top stitch the ribbon “photo corners” to the remnant. I then wrapped the mounted collage around foam core and glued in place. I stitched a length of ribbon to each of the top two corners. I put some very inexpensive picture mounting bracket from Michaels on the back and hung the picture. I tied a bow with the ribbons and secured over the picture with a push-pin.
The Finished Product:
The whole project cost around $12. (Can be much less if you have the materials on hand.)
Materials needed:
- Fabric glue
- Foam core board
- Tin art or other art for collage
