Sometimes having kids, getting older, and just life in general can separate people. Even best friends. There are times where you only see people during special occasions like holidays or birthdays. Why wait until a special occasion when you can just make your own?! Celebrate your friendship by having a “just because” girls day or night.
Pulling off a get together with your best friend doesn’t have to be fancy. I mean, you are best friends. You can just be yourselves and make it casual and relaxing. My best friend and I met in kindergarten. Fast forward to 32 years later and we’re still best friends! We can just hang out, talk and be ourselves no matter the situation. Whether you get together for a weekend brunch in the backyard or a movie night in your PJ’s, grab some of your favorite snacks and make this delicious and refreshing Blackberry Lemon Ginger Fizz.
I love ginger! My favorite soft drink is ginger ale. So I was so excited to be making a drink with Canada Dry® Blackberry Ginger Ale! Canada Dry™ is great because it brings feel good refreshment to casual gatherings because it’s made with real ginger. When I was thinking of the type of cocktail I wanted to make, I wanted to bring out that delicious ginger flavor. So, I made a ginger simple syrup to add more spiciness and a touch of sweetness.
Blackberry Lemon Ginger Fizz
2 C. Canada Dry® Blackberry Ginger Ale
1 1/2 Tbsp. ginger simple syrup* (recipe below)
1/2 C. fresh blackberries
2 med. lemons
1/4 C. Vodka
Squeeze lemons into a pitcher.
Gently muddle blackberries for 30 seconds. (I did this separately in a mortar and pestle. You can do it directly in the pitcher with the back of a fork if you don’t have one.)
Add blackberries and ginger simple syrup to the lemon juice and stir to combine.
Add ice and pour vodka over the top. Stir.
Top with the Canada Dry® Blackberry Ginger Ale. Give it one last stir. Enjoy!
Add more ginger syrup to suit your taste.
Ginger Simple Syrup
Fresh ginger (about 2 inches) peeled and cut into cubes
1/2 C. Sugar
1/2 C. Water
Combine ginger in a medium pot with the sugar and water. Put it on high and boil for 3-5 minutes. Lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Let cool and drain. Store in a container with a tight fitting lid in the refrigerator.
Canada Dry® Blackberry Ginger Ale is a seasonal product available at Ahold stores like Stop&Shop from March-May 2016.
