I Love Spring, I Don’t Love Bugs! #Sponsored

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Moxie Pest Control. All opinions are 100% mine.

Spring has sprung. The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping, and unfortunately, the bugs are crawling and buzzing about. I am not a fan of bugs. Flies, mosquitoes,  bees, ants…they are not a friend of mine! What do you do when these pests give you a problem inside your house? Pest Control is something we may have to worry about at one time or another, especially during spring.

As gross as I, and many others, think bugs are they are actually pretty interesting. Take ants, for instance. Did you know that ants fight to the death?

Check out the infographic below to see some fascinating (dare I say cool) facts about ants.  Here are just a few of the facts that I find the most interesting.

Have you ever seen an ant carrying something that looked bigger that it’s body? Well, that’s because an ant can lift 20 to 50 times its own body weight. I always thought they looked funny carrying around such big things.

Just like with bees, Queens rule with ants. The queen is an extremely important part of the colony. When the queen of the colony dies, the colony can only survive a few months, and are rarely replaced. Queen ants have wings. When they start a new colony, they will shed their wings.

It’s all about you in 2013!

Let’s make 2013 all about US! If we don’t take care of ourselves, how can we take care of our loved ones?

Take care of your body

I have come to realize after all these years that weight is just a number. I tried to fight the scale and it’s a losing battle. What matters to me now is health. But, being over weight and health go hand in hand. You get a clean bill of health and be 50lbs over weight, but, that doesn’t mean it’s ok. Your future can include diabetes, high blood pressure, and more. So, I want to focus on my health, and I think my weight will follow suit.

Do you exercise? As long as your doctor gives you the ok, you should at least be walking. Well, that’s at least what my doctor told me. :)

Beauty

Accentuate that beautiful self of yours! A little lip gloss and mascara can go a long way for your self esteem. I don’t know about you, but when I look nice, I feel better. And that exudes out of me to all aspects of my life.

Mommy’s can’t get sick

Mommy’s, you all know we can’t get sick! :) Daddy can get sick and so can the kids, but we aren’t allowed to!

Make sure you take your daily multivitamin. This is one step to keep your immune system up to speed.

Back to School Shopping on a Budget

Hey everyone. As some of you may know I started writing articles for SheBudgets. I wanted to share the most recently published article. I wrote this article a few weeks back, but it just got published. It may be a little out-dated, but I’d appreciate if you would check it out Back to School Shopping on a Budget.

Guest Post: Myth Busting By B and V Savings – A Guide to Busting Coupon Myths

Myth Busting By: B and V Savings

I am sure you heard all the sayings such as couponers are cheap; only eat junk food, and about a million other negatives. People think that every shopping trip is going to be like TLC’s Extreme Couponing, buying 100 bottles of mustard.  So let’s start busting those myths!

Coupon users are poor:  This is simply NOT true, while some people who are not financially healthy use coupons, so do those making over $100,000 a year.  In fact, household incomes over $100,000 annually are twice as likely to use coupons as those households bringing in $35,000.  Think of it like this, wealthy people are not wealthy by spending all of their money, but saving what they have.  I firmly believe that a household making $35,000 if given the proper tools may become wealthy, but it won’t be over night or without a little work.

Clipping Coupons takes too much time:  WRONG!  Coupons today are everywhere and you almost have to go out of your way to avoid them.  In addition to weekly coupons in your Sunday paper, you can also find coupons in magazines, manufacturer’s websites, on the back of receipts, fast food packaging, social media sites (like Facebook or Twitter), in your e-mail and even on your cell phone! Taking an hour out of your day to save over 50% is worth that hour!

The Store Brand is Cheaper:  While in some cases this may be true, in most it is not.  Remember, the goal is to maximize your savings, use your coupon with a sale price, to get the lowest price.  If you compare the two, I think you’d be surprised to find which one is cheaper. Plus, the stores now are also jumping on the coupon band wagon and offer store coupons that you can use.

You can only buy junk with coupons:  That’s a huge misconception, while there may be an abundance of coupons available for non-healthy food, there are also tons of coupons for frozen veggies, bagged salads, lean meats and other items you may need like cleaning supplies, diapers, pet food, etc.  You may have to look a little further, but the savings ARE there for you.

Coupons make you buy things you don’t need:  I think not, while it may make you want to try something you may not have normally, it isn’t making you buy anything.  It is all our own decision what products we purchase you can avoid buying something you don’t need or won’t use.

Happy Savings!

B & V Savings strive to bring you the very best (and most reliable coupons, samples and freebies around. Together we have saved our families over $10,000 in groceries last year. Our goal is to spread our knowledge and tools to help you save.

Back to School Savings – Start Early to Get the Most Bang for Your Buck!

Now is a great time to do your back to school shopping. You can find great deals going on at stores usually starting the end of July.

A great place to shop for back to school supplies is the dollar store. That is, depending on what your item is, of course. You have to be savvy and know the ballpark prices of certain items. If you know a certain pack of pens at other stores is $5 and you can get it for $1 at the dollar store, that’s a great deal to snatch up! But, you have to be careful because you don’t want to end up spending more at the dollar store. Sure, one dollar is pretty cheap, but if you can get the same item for $.01 why would you not want to save that $.99?

How can you get items for $.01? Staples, of course!

Staples has deals where you can get filler paper, erasers, pencils, binders and more for only $.01!  Usually, you must have a minimum of $5 to get them at that price and they usually have a limit of 4 of each item. Staples will also usually have a deal where you can get something for free with their Easy Rebate. For example, there are pens for $4 and there’s a $4 Easy Rebate making the pens free!

Also, check out their website Staples.com where you can usually print out a coupon for $5 off $30 when you click on the weekly ad link.

With that being said, why wait until the last-minute to go back to school shopping and pay full price when you can get it so much cheaper now?
